Meme link goes to brilliant response to this jackass – Make A&F the  No. 1 brand of homeless apparel.  From the article  “A campaign that clothes the needy and gets revenge on a boorish clothing company — what’s not to like?”

I would try anything once…

leave a comment »

Well,  almost anything.

This last weekend I worked on two freebie projects.

First, a quilt I promised as a first anniversary present for a good friend and co-worker. It is made up of extra fabric from her bridesmaids dresses. I’m pretty happy with it for a first quilt. This is it spread out on my drafting table. I’m just at the piecing stage.  The hard part is over, right? Right?

Second project is for a totally different co-worker.  I  love The University of Tampa, it is a big friendly wonderful place.

I turned a favorite Facebook icon she was using into a tote gift bag.  Hopefully I will get another picture of it once other co-workers fill it with goodies for her upcoming chemo sessions.  I wish her all the luck in world.

Minnie Mouse

Here are some lovely pictures of a co-worker at the Princess Half-Marathon.  She asked for a jogging skirt and since I had never made one, I thought I’d try.

It was just one length of fabric sized to fit her waist hips with elastic waistband and second gathered length. No pattern just free hand. The request was it be sparkly, comfy and look like Minnie Mouse’s dress. I thought I would try large spots and started appliqueing them.  Only problem was they disappeared into the folds.

Oh well, I love the way it ended up. I think she looks amazing.

I love sewing!
(and yes, I snagged the drawing from a site that sells them, my artist is on strike)

The Out of This World exhibit at the Tampa Bay History Center kicks off on Oct. 1 with an inter-galactic invasion led by Florida’s 501st Legion and the Real Tampa Ghostbusters. Costumed characters will begin their march to the History Center along downtown Tampa’s Riverwalk in Cotanchobee-Ft. Brooke Park at 1 p.m Saturday Oct 1. The procession begins at the Marriott Waterside, traveling east to the History Center.

The actual exhibit will feature more than 30 costumes and related objects from science fiction films and television programs such as, Star Wars, Blade Runner, Terminator, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica and Batman.

Another book I love

Actually Meg has been using this book and reminded me of it the other day. Great resource, look for it at your library.

It is part of an extended series spanning Medieval to almost modern.

Period Costume for the Stage & Screen: Patterns for Women’s Dress 1800-1909  Jean Hunnisett (Author) & Janette Haslam (Illustrator)
