Jamie at the drawing board

I’ve been sucked into the Pinterest craze and have a board of just beautiful pictures of sewing studios .

I tend toward posting the perfectly organized ones with clean hard floors. Mostly because I’m stuck with carpet that I can’t pull up and I’m a hoarder in recovery that is just learning to throw all those tiny pieces of fabric away. (But I might NEED them… lol)

On the other hand, I have a whole room for my hobby and an amazing old drafting table that adjusts heights at the push of a toe.  I like to look at the bright side.

Here is Jamie drafting a purse in “The Sweat Shop” as we like to call my studio. (you can see my hoarding tendencies on the bulletin board behind her) It might not be Pinterest ready but it sure cranks out some pretty things.

DragonCon 2012

On the ride home from Atlanta, every year I tell myself I’m going to lose weight before the next DragonCon.  I’m not sure if it is the great number of amazing bodies in spandex that inspire me; or is it the huge number of obese fans? They are called “fan-sized” for a reason.

And every year the week before D*Con, I look in the mirror and say “F*ck it, I’m going, I’m dressing up crazy and I’m going to have a blast” And I do.

I’ve never understood putting off doing something for “when I get thin”.  Gosh, I’ve been heavy since high school, what would I be if I kept putting off stuff since then?  I wouldn’t have found love, married, had wonderful children, moved across country, traveled and now live the life of Auntie Mame I’ve tried to live.  (my final goal is a butler, but HHB will do for now)

As Auntie Mame says, ” Live! Life’s a banquet and most poor suckers are starving to death!”

Next Week I shall gorge myself on fandom and costumes!

I love sewing.

Minnie Mouse

Here are some lovely pictures of a co-worker at the Princess Half-Marathon.  She asked for a jogging skirt and since I had never made one, I thought I’d try.

It was just one length of fabric sized to fit her waist hips with elastic waistband and second gathered length. No pattern just free hand. The request was it be sparkly, comfy and look like Minnie Mouse’s dress. I thought I would try large spots and started appliqueing them.  Only problem was they disappeared into the folds.

Oh well, I love the way it ended up. I think she looks amazing.

I love sewing!
(and yes, I snagged the drawing from a site that sells them, my artist is on strike)
